 This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Luth
 eran Church in America — one church\, freed in Christ to serve and love 
 our neighbor.\nService activities offer an opportunity for us to explore o
 ne of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus C
 hrist – every act of service\, in every daily calling\, in every corner 
 of life — flows freely from a living\, daring confidence in God’s grac
 e.\n \n\nMinistries of Grace Lutheran Church\nMONTHLY SUPPORT\nVISTE  (J
 anuary &amp\; June)\nVolunteers in Service to the Elderly\, VISTE was esta
 blished in 1983 and Grace has a long history of helping with food\, househ
 old items\, and financial assistance\, to help at-risk seniors stay in the
 ir homes.\nCROP WALK  (February)\nCROP Walk is an acronym for Christian R
 ural Overseas Program. Each February members of Grace join with other chur
 ches walking to raise money for World Hunger with 25% of the funds staying
  in the local community.  CROP Walk is a nationwide event\, beginning on
  October 26\, 2009 and draws walkers from communities around the United St
 ates.\nANCHOR HOUSE  (March)\nStarted in 1974\, Anchor House houses and c
 ares for boys age 12 to 17. Their Transition program serves young adults a
 ges 18 to 21\, both male and female\, and has four houses to assist them w
 ith the tools to become capable adults. Grace  supports this Christian mi
 nistry by means of donations of food\, hygiene items\, household items and
  general supplies.\nELCA– GOD'S GLOBAL BARNYARD  (April)\nThis is an EL
 CA based program that collects funds to buy a variety of farm animals for 
 communities around the world and also the United States so that they may b
 ecome self-sufficient. If enough funds are raised an entire farm may be pu
 rchased and contributed. \nREZ HOUSE  (May)\nResurrection House Mission 
 of the ELCA is a Lutheran Church in Dade City. It was founded by Farmworke
 rs Self-Help (FSH)\, Rez House has been it’s own 501c3 entity since 2003
 . The two work closely together\, but have separate boards and financial a
 ccountability. Both groups have helped the community at large for over 40 
 years. Grace assists with food\, clothing\, personal hygiene and household
  items and financial support. Items that are not immediately needed are so
 ld in their Thrift Store to raise extra funds for community Support.\nCHRI
 STMAS IN JULY  (July)\nOur annual "Christmas in July" collection helps su
 stain both the church's daily operations and our outreach to our community
 .  In addition to paper goods and office supplies\, we're now welcoming g
 ift cards to share with neighbors navigating difficult times.\nOSCAR J. PO
 PE  (August)\nThis elementary school is the most disadvantaged school in 
 Polk County. Grace has assisted for many years with the Backpack Ministry 
 and with school supplies in the fall. The Backpack program supports 30 at-
 risk children who have been handpicked by the staff as the most needy.  
 This program assists the food insecurity these students face\, as it lets 
 them know that others care! School supplies also ease the financial strugg
 le many of the families face.\nTALBOT HOUSE  (September)\nFounded in 1979
 \, to help people with food and housing\, it has expanded into assisting w
 ith medical\, job training\, socialization\, overnight and long-term stays
 \, daily meals\, and food distribution. We help with food\, clothing\, per
 sonal hygiene items\, monetary contributions\, and other collections as ne
 eded.\nSPCA  (October)\nThe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Anim
 als maintains a no-kill shelter in Lakeland.  It houses cats and dogs pro
 viding for their personal and medical needs. Grace collects pet toys\, com
 fort supplies\, pet food\, and financial support.\nCOPS 4 KIDS  (November
 )\nOrganized by the Lakeland Police Department\, COPS 4 KIDS provides toys
  to children of all ages at Christmas time. Grace collects toys and money 
 for this worthy cause.\nPASTOR'S DISCRETIONARY FUND  (December)\nHelp our
  office share God's love by assisting members and neighbors in need.  Don
 ate cash or gift cards for gas\, grceries\, and pharmacy.\n \nONGOING SUP
 PORT\nLUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE\nLDR offers long-term practical &amp\; sp
 iritual support to those recovering from natural disasters.\nOSCAR J. POPE
  ELEMENTARY\nDuring the school year\, we pack and deliver food to 30 Pope 
 students weekly\, helping ensure they have meals over the weekend.\nQUILTI
 NG\nGrace Quilters create tangible signs of God's love to those in need of
  warmth &amp\; comfort..\nLIONS CLUB GROUP NORTH\nWe donate old eyeglasses
  to give free vision help to people in need around the world.
