Hello friends!
My time here at FSU is flying by! I have learned from world class music scholars and musicians. My music theory professor is known across the world for her music analysis works and her music theory textbook is also used in most music schools in the United States. Growing up in rural Alabama, she learned to read music as a child from her little church choir. Taking her knowledge and love of music from her childhood, she travelled the world studying and learning music. (She is only fluent in seven languages, hasn't learned an eighth one yet.) Hearing her stories of life experiences from earning her Ph.D. in Music Theory from Yale, to visiting other top institutions are inspirational. My voice professor used to sing lead roles with the San Francisco Opera as well as singing with companies and artists from around the world. The Orchestra professor is a true music educator for public school teachers. My research professor is a retired choral director that had a career in public schools as well as the college level. She works as a music editor for a popular music publisher in the US and teaches graduate students at FSU. My choral conducting professor is an award winning conductor and has conducted choirs around the world.
My time hasn't been all work. I have made several new friends and visited an animal sanctuary. I have been visiting St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral, which houses Florida's largest pipe organ (46th largest in the world).
Until I return, be kind to others, love loudly, sing with heart, and be thankful for each day as it is truly a gift from God.
